Data Collection

For a long time I never really felt that providing information via the web was a problem until one of my aunts had her identity stole. Once I learned how quick her life changed because someone committed fraudulent transactions through her bank account it really open my eyes. However, I have not officially took thee time out to actually purchase software ta helps protect me fully I am very cautious of what information I do provide with companies such as Apple, Microsoft, and Facebook. I do not put private information on my Facebook.  When it comes to my social media usage I can say that I have in the past posted locations just out of excitement, however I try my best not to leave location services on my cell phone turned on.  The first time logged on social networking sites I never took the time to read the "privacy policy" and even till this day I still skim.  After reading the excerpts " The Price of Free: How Apple, Facebook, Microsoft, and Google Sell you to Advertisers" it lets me know that my Apple ID is pretty much protected versus what I search n google.  I always had a curiosity about how  Companies like google gain profit and it is through selling my information. With google being the most used search engine I do feel that we as citizens should have big concerns about this. Identity theft can be  a dangerous situation and what if the information get s into the wrong hands.  Big Brother is very important in our lives and need to be aware of what is really going on with our own private information.
